This virtual exhibit illustrates the evolution of the parliamentary form of government in Nova Scotia from its inception to the present day. Documents have been carefully selected to explain how this parliamentary democracy emerged in 1758 and how the Nova Scotia parliamentary system has developed over the last 250 years.
The exhibit brings together, for the first time, over 200 key documents from eight repositories across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, the United States, and the United Kingdom. A significant number of these documents are new to most of us and have never been seen in Canada. They belong to all of us and are a reminder that we have a responsibility to help shape the documents of the future.
This is our story – of the achievement of the first representative government in Canada, the subsequent struggle for responsible government, and the many other significant developments that have led to the rights and freedoms we enjoy in 2008.
